Polyester
features include its luxurious “soft-hand”, inherent and permanent stain-resistant, and ability to produce a wide selection of textures and colors. Other features include durability, abrasion resistance, and fade resistance. It is non-allergenic, sheds moisture, resists moths and mildew and cleans easily. While polyester is not as inherently resilient as nylon, carpets made of polyester fiber will perform well if appropriately constructed. Polyester styles are good choices for almost all carpet needs. Polyester carpet styles typically represent good value.
Nylon
features include the ability to produce a variety of color schemes. It's a strong fiber, making it an excellent choice for heavy traffic areas. It's also the most durable of the synthetics, easy to clean and maintain. Nylon is soil and mildew resistant, resilient and non-allergenic. However, some nylon may pill and be prone to static.
Olefin (Polypropylene)
Widely used for its durability and soft-like feel and appearance making it the primary fiber used in indoor/outdoor carpet. Olefin is dyed before it's made into a fiber and therefore is colorfast, though some olefin can flatten and fade in direct sunlight. Unlike other fiber types, polypropylene will not absorb water and must therefore be solution dyed (pigmented) to impart color. The color will not fade, even when exposed to intense sunlight, bleaches, atmospheric contaminants, or other harsh chemicals or elements.
